Use the diagram to explain why

tan(θ)=sin(θ)cos(θ)

Hence, solve the following for all values of θ such that 180θ180.

  1. 3sin(θ)=2cos(θ)
  2. 5sin(θ)+2cos(θ)=0
  3. 1sin(θ)3cos(θ)=0

In (a) and (b), you can divide by cos(θ), and then make use of the fact that

sin(θ)cos(θ)=tan(θ)

In (c), you can multiply by sin(θ) to make sin(θ)cos(θ)
